Shaw Rising
Tim Finkbiner, 57 minutes, USA
Shaw Rising tells the story of the oldest Historically Black College in the South.
During Reconstruction, Shaw trained America’s first class of Black lawyers and doctors. And in 1960, Shaw University was the birthplace of SNCC, the Student Non-Violent Coordinating Committee. SNCC organized lunch counter sit-ins, voter registration and the March on Washington.
Today, Shaw confronts new challenges to its mission and its very existence.
