L’Effecte Aleatori

THE RANDOM EFFECT - 02

Wednesday, October 22, 5pm, Ethnic Cultural Center

Undergoing a severe economic crisis with no equity and high unemployment rates, a small European region is on the verge of bankruptcy. Set against such economic landscape, a modest biologist, Aleix Dalmau, accidentally discovers a mutation in a molecule that, applied to a group of animals, infects half the members randomly, causing its death. The fact that this mutation is completely unknown ensures undetectable cause of death.

A power group, consisting of politicians and businessmen, aware of the discovery, extort Aleix to inoculate this molecule in humans, particularly among the lower classes of the community. The aim is to remove non-productive people to keep intact the privileges of the higher social classes.

Aleix is caught in a personal conflict when he has to make the decision of exterminating thousands of people and joining the group of privileged or rejecting the offer and face the consequences of an extortion that will drag him and his family to a grinding poverty. (Nofre Moyà, 29 min, Spain)
